MID-ATLANTIC ARTS FOUNDATION SUPPORTS TLEN-HUICANI TOURING
FOR 2005/06 SEASON
The Mid
Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) has announced it will support
2005/06-season touring of Tlen-Huicani (SRO Artists, Inc.).
Arts presenters in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New
Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, and
West Virginia may qualify for performance grants with the group.
According to Martha Dodson, Performing Arts & Leadership Development
Program Officer at MAAF, "Funding for [2005/06 season] engagements
of Tlen-Huicani will be the lesser of 40% of the negotiated artist
fee or $2,400."
Tlen-Huicani, which means "the singers" in the indigenous
Indian language of Nahuatl, makes the beautiful harpa jarocha,
or folk harp, the centerpiece of their music. Maestro, Alberto
de la Rosa , is respected for his musicianship throughout
Mexico and considered among the most outstanding folk harpists in
the world. Under his direction, the group has mastered many types
of Latin music.
The Mid-Atlantic tour of Tlen-Huicani is funded, in part, by MAAF
in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional
Touring Program.
