DSO's 2,000th show milestone in sight
01-July-2011 — SRO's Jeff Laramie has indicated Dark Star Orchestra (DSO) will play it's 2000th show this coming fall 2011. Since 1997, DSO has performed throughout the United States and Europe. They continue to grow their fan base by playing at larger venues for two and even three nightstands as well as performing at major music festivals including Bonnaroo, All Good Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Summer Camp, Wakarusa and 10,000 Lakes. In addition, DSO hosts its own annual July gathering, Gratefulfest, where they headline three nights and are joined by a mix of established and up and coming national touring acts. |

New release from Catie Curtis out August 30, 2011
20-June-2011 — The 11th career studio release from Catie Curtis, Stretch Limousine on Fire, will be out August 30th on Compass Records. Produced by Lorne Entress, these ten new tracks were recorded and mixed by Ryan Freeland in L.A. (Ray LaMontangue, Ingrid Michaelson, The Weepies). Matthew Curry, a Grammy nominated artist/designer (best known for his work with Thievery Corporation) is illustrating the cover and designing the CD artwork and Joseph Anthony Baker (Taylor Swift) shot the photos. Extensive US touring will support. Routing includes:

13-June-2011 — Karla Bonoff returns to Japan for a tour with JD Souther, February 21 through 26, 2012. The tour, originally scheduled in May of 2011, was postponed due to travel warnings from Japan in the wake of its devastating earthquakes. |

A Busy Year 2011 For Janis Ian
10-June-2011 — Janis Ian toured Japan all of January-February, then performed an exhausting 30 US cities in 50 days in March/April. Highlights included several performances with Tom Paxton and Natalia Zukerman under the banner "Together At Last". This summer includes an appearance at The Hudson River Clearwater Festival, and The Swannanoa Festival followed by a three-month European tour from September to November. Whew! Janis will be writing for another upcoming book and CD in the Winter and Spring. Summer 2012 dates are limited, until scheduling returns to open US touring in Fall 2012 and Spring 2013. 06-June-2011 — Seriouseats.com, an award winning top five food blog with a devoted and large following of more than 1.7 million users monthly, lists Patty Larkin's song "Caffeine" within their top five songs about coffee. From her 1984 album Step Into the Light the song mentions George Howell's historic Harvard Square cafe, as well as the Coffee Connection (birthplace of the frappuccino).

Simon Shaheen's 'Oud Concerto' Has Worldly Legs
05-June-2011 — Oud Concerto, which premiered with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2008, was performed by ERT National Symphonic Orchestra June 4 at Megaron-Athens Concert Hall in Greece. Composer Simon Shaheen notes, "The concert in Athens was wonderful - the orchestra was excellent, and it was videotaped professionally for Greek TV." According to Simon, a recording of the oud concerto is due soon, as performed live in Lebanon with the Beirut Symphony earlier this year.

Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Two for Japan
10-April-2011 — In early 2011 Janis Ian returned to Japan for a much-anticipated tour there, bringing with her US singer/songwriter Natalia Zukerman. In light of recent tragic events in Japan, both artists have agreed to donate 100% proceeds from the sale of two rare mp3 downloads (two Janis Ian songs, performed live in Osaka January 22, 2011) to Citizen's Nuclear Information Center [www.cnic.jp]. The CNIC is an anti-nuclear public interest organization in Japan dedicated to securing a safe, nuclear-free world. The Center was formed to provide reliable information and public education on all aspects of nuclear power, to ultimately realize this goal.

31-March-2011 — On this day in 2006, Catie Curtis was named grand prize winner of the International Songwriting Competition, for her song “People Look Around”, co-written with Mark Erelli. The judges, (including Tom Waits, Loretta Lynn, Macy Gray, and Sonny Rollins) chose the winner from a field of 15,000 entries from 82 countries. The song appeared on Long Night Moon (©2006, Compass Records) an intricate work of stripped down modern folk. |

17-March-2011 — Dark Star Orchestra returns to Jam in the Dam VI: a multi-day, multi-room extravaganza held at the legendary Melkweg in Amsterdam, Netherlands, March 14 through 16, 2012. The festival will also feature: moe., Mike Gordon, Lotus and Keller Williams. Each artist will play extended sets all three nights in one of the two concert halls, all under one roof. This marks DSO's first trip back to JITD since their back-to-back appearances in 2007 and 2008. |

WAA 2010 Showcase Leads to SRO Signing
05-September-2010 — Argentinean guitarist Gonzalo Bergara and his quartet, showcased their intricate swing and gypsy jazz at the 2010 Western Arts Alliance Conference in Long Beach, California. Shortly after, SRO signed them for national booking representation. President of SRO Artists, Inc. Jeff Laramie says, "Gonzalo is one of the most dynamic young guitarists we've seen in a long time." Composer and lead guitarist Bergara mixes cascades of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina and is supported by an ace clarinetist and a honed rhythm section. Bergara is fiery and focused, while the hard-swinging band takes the audience for a ride.

Kenny Edwards (1946-2010)
19-August-2010 — Last week, we asked you to join us in helping Kenny Edwards obtain an emergency med-flight back to his home in Southern California, as he was hospitalized while on tour with Karla Bonoff. The response was overwhelming, and thanks to the generosity of the music community, Kenny did get to return home to Santa Barbara. We are, however, saddened to report that yesterday Kenny lost his battle with advancing prostate cancer and passed away peacefully. Your words, thoughts, generosity, & kindness eased his transition. and/or promote SRO’s roster of established artists and
attractions. Today's launch -- SRO's fourth web site overhaul in 11 years -- delivers more booking information, better media samples, and complete presenter tools for each artist on our roster. Here are some of the new features:
- Streaming Media: New media player interface allows the
preview of high-quality audio and video samples at any time.
The same interface offers slide show of artists’ images.
- Presenter Resources: To help you evaluate or promote our artists, you'll find a full array of
support materials ranging from
program notes and bios, study guides, color posters and flyers,
high-res photos and logos, production quality audio/video,
publicity and record label contacts, and much more. You can also view “Availability” or formally
